North announces the release of a new North communications driver that increases it's compatibilty with Staefa's range of air conditioning systems.
Staefa's Smart I is a legacy system. That is, although no new controllers for this range are being manufactured, there are still thousands out in the field, notably in the United States. A Staefa Smart I control system consists of a network of Smart I terminal unit controllers, designed for pressure independant variable air volume, pressure dependant variable air volume and constant volume zone control. The controllers are used for resetting air valve positions and supplemental heat.
Up to 32 controllers can exist on the same trunk, each of which can provide temperature and velocity readings for cooling and heating. Setpoints, local control and heating coefficients can be read/written and the controllers can be reset. The StfaSmrt driver communicates with the Staefa trunk bus via Atkinson Electonics' AETI-485 RS485 to TTL converter.
