With the increasing usage of IP networks in building control systems, a need for devices to be able to communicate securely on open LANs and WANs has developed. North has released an improved version of the IPBus driver by adding security in the form of a 'software key'.
The IPBus driver uses an 'open–hidden' encryption for each message. The open key must be present on each North product, and once a message has been validated, the un-encrypted values can be used as required. This means that North products can share LANs and WANs with other non-building control systems without concern of rogue messages being received.
Both ObSys and Commander have this update in their IPBus interface modules. If you would like to request an updated copy of ObSys please contact support.
