History of North Building Technologies

Origin

North Building Technologies started life in 1995 as an offshoot of an existing building controls integration business. In 2003, North Building Technologies changed its name from North Communications to reflect the growing range of integrated building management products.

North has always been privately held and management-owned, and has on average grown by 33% year-on-year, due to a commitment to our customers to provide a range of well-supported building control products. North maintains a truly independent stance on integration, providing open systems for building controls.

Compass

Compass has been available since 1993 and provides an integrating network that connects to existing control systems, allowing them to interoperate and provide data to a common user interface. Around 3000 Compass co-ordinated sites have been succesfully installed around the world.

ObSys

North's second product range, released in 1998, is a scalable PC-based user interface. Called ObSys, it is built around North's eXtensible Object Model (XOM), and provides a seamless environment for managing an integrated building control system.

Zip

Launched in 2000, Zip is a cost-effective data-acquisition and control system that can extend, augment and interoperate with existing building control systems.

Commander

Commander has been on release since 2001, and uses the latest embedded disk-less technology to provide web-enabled integration, e-mail alarm services and more. Building control systems can now be integrated, and a standard HTML browser provide the user interface.
