What is Web-based Automation?
The phrase "web based automation system" covers many areas, from controllers that use IP (Internet Protocol) as the carrier for their own communications messages, to a system that uses a Web Based GUI (Graphical User Interface).
Norths' Commander and Obsys products are all "web enabled" in that they have a built in Web server and can use IP to communicate between each other.
You can use products such as Commander and Obsys 2.0 to web enable older devices that do not have any IP connectivity. For example, adding a Commander to a Fire Panel will allow a user to browse onto the Commanders web server and see the status of each zone, it is possible that they may also be able to reset or isolate devices from that web interface You could also use the Commanders web capabilities to share values with third party systems over the web, using protocols such as BACnet/IP, XML or SNMP. Commander can even Email alarms notifications to you.
