North Building Technologies

The objective of this training course is to provide people with the knowledge and basic skills required to engineer the Compass product from North.

At the end of this hands-on training course you will be able to install, configure and troubleshoot Compass based networks.

Delegates will be given a compulsory assessment paper at the end of the course. On completion and passing the assessment, they will receive an accreditation certificate.

Course Duration

The course lasts one day and is based at our offices in Brighton.

Target Audience

This course is aimed at people with a technical background but no specialised knowledge.

Course Contents

Session 1

• Introduction - Introduction to the North range of products and the extensible object model (XOM).
• Compass Overview - Overview of Compass and its usage, including system integration, providing common displays, interoperability, etc.
• Installation - Network wiring; cables; power requirements; CE requirements; hardware platforms; interfaces.
• Addressing - Addressing Compass Points; use of serial and device numbers.
• Engineering Tool - Overview of ObSys the engineering tool, including software installation onto delegates PC; navigation around the system; adjusting values; objects.
• Help System - Overview of the help assistant and documentation library.

Session 2

• Integration - Interface technology; Compass and the range of drivers available.
• Data Transfer - Using Compass transfers to share values between systems.
• Alarms - Alarm message generation and routing; viewing alarms.
• Backup and Restore - Using the save and load utilities to provide site backup.

Each session includes useful hands-on exercises.

Lunch will be provided, and refreshments will be available during the day.

Course Requirements

Delegates are required to bring along their laptop PC (see system requirements) for hands-on exercises.

Course Fees

This one day training course costs £400 per delegate. Fees include: lunch; a copy of the engineering software and documentation; accreditation certificate; and access to product telephone support and software updates.
