The AlmXlate interface connects to North's extensible object model, and provides a method of translating alarm event messages. The text of an incoming message is compared against the alarm translator's database, and the translated alarm is then sent to the module's alarm object.
AlmXlate could be used to interpret alarm text from any system connected to the extensible object model. For example, to change a cryptic fire panel loop device number to a more user friendly location text.
The alarm translator contains a database of 1000 text phrases to translate parts of an alarm message. Additionally, the OSM version of this interface can also use a comma-separated value file (CSV) to translate complete alarm messages.
On receiving an alarm message, the translator will first search its database of up to 1000 entries. The device name, point name and condition fields are searched for separately within this database.
For a field to be translated, the entire field must match the database entry exactly. If a match is found, the whole text field in the alarm is replaced with the translate-to text entry.
Next on the ObSys platform, alarm translator will search the CSV file data for a match to the device name, point name and condition text. If all three of these match together then they are replaced with the new device name, point name, condition and priority.
If no match is found from either database, the alarm message remains unchanged.
As the AlmXlate interface is a system enhancement module, there is no associated device for there to be a range of products.
The AlmXlate interface is available on the following North platforms:
| CP/ALMXLATE/MRTC | Compass Point with AlmXlate interface |
| OSM/ALMXLATE | OSM automatically loaded with all ObSys editions |
