M-Bus Interface

Schematic showing MBus interface

The MBus interface links a network of M-Bus compatible energy meters to the North Extensible Object Model. The interface can remotely read data from up to 250 energy meters, over a meter network spanning several kilometres.

The North MBus interface complies with the M-Bus standard (EN13757-3), and is capable of communicating with many different manufacturers M-Bus meters. For a list of some of the meters tested with our interface refer to the Supported Range below.

To connect the interface to the M-Bus network an M-Bus line converter is required. Also called an M-Bus Master, this provides an RS232 gateway to the M-Bus hardware (EN 13757-2) and power to the M-Bus interface on each meter.
If the meter manufacturer supplies an M-Bus line converter, as is the case with Kamstrup and Switch2, then we recommend using this. Alternative line converters are also supplied by Relay (PW60) and Westermo (AD-01).

Supported Range

The MBus interface is compatible with all M-Bus standard meters from a variety of manufacturers. In particular the interface has been successfully used with:

  • Kamstrup - range of heat, cooling and water meters including the Multical 601, Multical 401, Multical 41 and Multical 61. Kamstrup 162, 182, 382, 352 electricity meters.
  • ABB - range of heat meters including the SVM F2, F3, F4 and F531. DELTAplus electricity meters.
  • Switch2 - Metrima heat meter
  • Hydrometer - Sharky 773 water meter
  • Sontex - Supercal 531
  • Viterra - Combimeter II heat meter
