To help you if you have any queries regarding the GSMSMS interface, we have compiled the most frequently asked questions.
The GSMSMS interface provides a link between ObSys or Compass and the Short Messaging Service (SMS) that is used by mobile phones. The interface can be used to pass standard format alarms to a mobile phone in text message format, and a user can also request values from a GSM-compatible mobile phone using the text message facility.
Let's look at the GSMSMS Compass Point. Via a GSM Modem (fitted with a SIM card) the Compass Network can send alarms directly to a user's mobile telephone. The interface also works with a UserData interface to allow the mobile telephone user to request pages of data and to set parameters.
A UserData interface allows the engineer to create 'pages' of objects, and can determine whether these objects can simply be read remotely by SMS or can be written to as well. Therefore, by combining these two interfaces, you can create a method of remote monitoring via your mobile phone. The UserData interface is available in both Compass Point and OSM format.
