Preventing the editing of finished views

To help you if you wish to prevent the editing of finished views in ObSys, we have compiled the most frequently asked questions.

How do I lock a particular view?

New View Wizard The methods of preventing a particular view from being edited depends on what type of view was selected when first creating it with the new view wizard.

In ObView, the 'Advance view' requires to be unlocked every time the view it is edited. Therefore, whenever an Advance view is closed it will automatically lock itself. To lock a 'Standard view' requires a small amount of editing in the view's Obv file. This file is located within the TypeInfo directory in ObSys. After opening the Obv file, add the new line 'EE=Obj\NoYes;IV=0' at the top of the text. Save the adjusted file and the view will be locked for editing. To edit this view again the new line will need to be removed or have the IV=0 changed to IV=1.

How do I lock all of ObView?

Advance edit level All of ObView can be locked by changing the edit level for the whole of ObView. This is done in User Options, edit level 'None'. Select 'User' on the menu bar and click on 'Options' that appear on the drop down menu. The User Options window appears. Select the edit tab and in the edit level box change the radio button to 'None - The user cannot create or modify views'. Click apply, and then Ok. All views will now be locked to editing. To edit view again, return to the edit tab of User Options and change the radio button to Standard or Advance (depending on the edit level required).
