Interface licences

North Commander and ObSys controllers provide interfacing to third-party systems using North’s interface technology.

For each third-party system, North produces a driver – a software protocol converter that translates the system’s communication language into North’s standard object model.

North supply controllers, such as Commander, with a set number of interface licences. These are used to license the use of drivers.

Starting a driver typically requires one interface licence. However, some drivers, such as BACnet and Modbus, are free to use and do not require one. Check the driver list for details.

When Commander starts an interface using a driver, that driver borrows an interface licence. Once the interface is no longer required and the driver stops, it releases the licence back to Commander. This allows another driver to borrow it, giving you the flexibility to change interfaces.

An interface licence starts a single driver with its full capabilities and does not restrict the number of values available from it.

You can specify the number of interface licences required when ordering, or purchase additional licences later; please contact us to upgrade. We will need details from your device to guide you through adding more licences.
