ObSys release notes
ObSys is updated on a regular basis with the latest interfaces, software and documentation for the range of North Building Technologies products including ObServer, Commander, and Zip.

Commander v2.0 (build 01/01/25) includes the following changes:
Network Time – additional checking of an NTP response, to help resolve issue of momentarily incorrect year affecting Hub data reporting.
Local Web server – resolved issue where the web server was not enabled in DEFAULTIP override mode, when both local/remote access set to none. Updated Device Information page to include ‘website access’ setting.
ObSys
- Observer
ObView – Added a prompt to update ObSys when missing files are detected. Advanced ObVerse Processor updated with additional Windows Style.
ObVerse Editor – Updated to support recent changes to ObVerse Processor.
Drivers
- Davis Instruments weather monitoring
- A major revision of the Davis Weather driver (version 2.0) now connects to a WeatherLink live to access information from multiple local weather stations.
- Modbus
- A new revision of the Modbus driver (version 3.1) adds features to both its server and client.
- Modbus server: Improved document creation for third-party integration. Clarified signed/unsigned integer use.
- Modbus client: Additional decode added for accessing a single register from a multi-register read. Cache and TCP keep-alive added. Resolved request/response mismatch on some faster serial connections.
- EV Charging
- A new OCPP driver provides user authentication and control to a single electric vehicle (EV) charger, via an OCPP gateway.
- Other updates

- A major revision of the DraytonWiser driver (version 2.0) adds support for underfloor heating, electric heat actuators, and changes in its operation.
- Other updates
- This release includes minor updates to the JSONData, Simplex, Galaxy, APC, and ExtraData. They are available to update using Commander’s Cloud Update feature.
November 2023
This release features:

Commander
- Commander Firmware
Commander v2.0 (build 01/11/23) includes the following changes:
The new DHCP Server (in DEFAULTIP mode) provides an IP address to your connected PCs, getting you engineering quicker.
General improvements to detect a power-loss (from a failing power supply) while Commander is powering-up.
An ObVerse Processor update adds a new Last-Change module, and Text-Equal, Text-In-Text, Text-Join, Text-Length, and Text-Split modules are now supported. Previously these Text modules types were only supported in advanced processors.
Local Web server – exported CSV file format updated to resolve some utf-8 encoding issues.
North IP Devices – performance optimisations.
ObSys
- Observer
WebView has an improved LDAP (Active Directory) sign-in, and modified text to sign-in alarm events. An issue with RemoteWrite was resolved that could cause a browser to incorrectly display a missing image placeholder.
AlarmStore is updated to resolve an issue with CSV file formatting.
North IP Devices includes performance optimisations.
- ObVerse Processor and ObVerse Editor
A new Last-Change module has been added, and Text-Equal, Text-In-Text, Text-Join, Text-Length, and Text-Split module types are now supported. Previously these Text modules were only supported in advanced processors.
ObVerse Editor is updated to include support for these module types.
- Data Manager
Improvements to CSV data file handling includes a new auto-delete option, custom folder location, and the re-creation of files if deleted by another application.
The retry time when a channel’s source object is failing has been changed, similar to Essential Data, to increase with the number of failed attempts.
Object reference changes include a new Information object with total data channels, alert counts, and cycle time. The Setup object now contains set up options grouped by category.
Various general improvements were made and issues fixed.

- Updated links to documentation and resolved an issue with buttons on the info pane not initialising correctly.
- Object Exporter
- Navigating to folder shortcuts has been added when browsing for a destination folder location.
- Documentation
- ObSys Tutorial (Part 2) is now available and covers Alarm Manager, Data Manager, and ObView.
Zip
- Zip Driver
- The ZipMaster driver (v1.2 build 18/11/22) for Commander and ObSys is updated to improve start-up, including faster detection of connected modules.
Drivers
- Advanced Electronics fire detection
- The Advanced driver (v1.5 build 01/11/23) has been renamed from Advanced4000. Changes include new objects for event counts of each condition.
- Modbus
- This Modbus driver (v3.0 build 01/03/23) includes a fix an issue when decoding 4-register (8-byte) values.
February 2023
This release focuses on performance optimisations.
Commander
- Commander Firmware
Commander v2.0 (build 01/01/23) includes the following changes:
General improvements to power-loss detection and shut-down procedure.
Sending to Hub has a few minor changes – Data encryption block size has been optimised to increase idle times, and improved delivery after a loss of Internet connection.
Local Web server – fixed formatting issue of profile and times values when refreshing on values detail page.
Alarm Emailer – resolved issue causing email to resend on some servers.

In WebView, we've added support for LDAP secure (LDAPS).

Commander v2.0 (build 17/08/22) includes the following changes:
Local web server – page data now automatically refreshes, remembers value expand/collapse all, fixed displaying month, enhanced security policy.
We've increased the number of factory-installed drivers. These drivers are also available via cloud update feature.
Alarm Emailer – improved sending over poor signal connections.
Fixed issues with clearing Alarm History may stop Hub reporting, and TCP socket link closure.

- M7007 mixed input-output module
- A new M7007A module is released. It has two digital inputs, four universal inputs, two relay outputs, and three analogue outputs.This replaces the M7012 for new projects. See Zip Manual for details.
- M7204 Smart Switch facia change
- The M7204A Smart Switch display has been redesigned and features a solid brushed aluminium facia and buttons. For a custom install, replacement unfinished solid brass metal facia and button kits are availble to finish in your chosen design.

- The ZipMaster driver (v1.2 build 01/09/22) for Commander and ObSys is updated to support the new M7007 module.

- This release includes minor enhancements to the DataSync, Notifer, and KentecTaktis drivers.

Commander v2.0 (build 02/06/22) includes the following changes:
Redesigned local web server – simple responsive html pages which the user can view in any modern browser.
An ObVerse Processor update adds Profile, Times, and DateTime property types; along with Times-State, Profile-Values, Date-Pulse, and Smooth module types. See ObVerse Manual: Standard Processor for details.
Essential Data – for float-type objects, added 0.5 decimal place option.
Following previous changes to the PROGRAM and DEFAULTIP switches. This version adds a TFTP permitted object to control TFTP updates in PROGRAM mode.
Other changes to Commander include a larger ARP cache, and improved battery monitoring.

This release addresses a few issues within Commander.

- Commander Hub
This latest firmware is available via Commander's Software Cloud Update, and via the download link above.
- Commander Firmware
Commander v2.0 (build 23/12/21) includes the following changes:
General improvement to TCP/IP communications, including increased memory allocation.
Fixed an issue with ARP and Telnet that could impact TCP communications.
Fixed an issue with label corruption on Hub.
Drivers
- This release also includes minor enhancements to the Telnet and Daikin drivers.

Commander Hub extends the power of Commander by providing easy remote viewing and editing, long-term recording of building data, and management of shared access.

- Commander Firmware
Commander v2.0 (build 01/10/21) includes the following new and updated features:
New feature to enable link to Commander Hub. Once enabled, Commander continually monitors and records changes to values collected by Essential Data, alarm events received by Alarm History, and device information. Then it encrypts and transfers these changes to Commander Hub.
New feature to update Commander's firmware directly from North's cloud servers.
This version changes the operation of the PROGRAM switch, moving some features to the DEFAULTIP switch. Refer to Commander Manual for details.
The local web server has an updated support page, with option enable the Commander Hub link.
Fixed an issue with Essential Data not clearing a comms alarm state, when the value is unchanged.
North IP Devices resolves an issue with its comms check, caused by the reference containing an alias.
Other updates include - improved ARP cache operation, default DNS server (1.1.1.1) and NTP server (pool.ntp.org) when unspecified, support for latest Commander hardware revision, along with updated documentation.
Note: any existing configuration may be deleted on upgrading to this version. We recommend first saving a backup of Commander's configuration. Contact support for assistance.

The ZipMaster driver (v1.2 build 17/06/21) for Commander and ObSys is updated as follows:
Support for new M7005 module.
Thermistor value conversion range extended to -50...150°C.
Offline configuration of an M7004 module: fixed an issue that caused universal outputs (UOx) to wipe when connected.
M7202 display: resolved issue of bi-directional values writing on a restart, even though adjust set to 'no'.

- An updated HeatmiserNeo driver increases the resolution of temperature setpoints, and detects any changes to a zone's device type more frequently.

Views are auto-scanned when no items have been discovered previously;
Items that have changed since the view was last scanned are highlighted, prompting a rescan;

Marked object is reset to the local ObServer when ObSys is started.
- ObVerse Editor
- An update to the ObVerse Editor application resolves an isolated issue when inserting or pasting ObVerse. When a pasted item's reference was already in the ObVerse processor, the reference was four characters long, and ended in a 'z'; then the item's reference became corrupted.

- Essential Data is updated to reduce the retry period from 15min to 5min, when remote fails reach 9.

- The latest Modbus driver (version 3.0) incorporates features from our existing range of Modbus drivers (Modbus v2, ModbusTCP, and ModbusSlave) replacing them with a single unified driver.
- DALI Lighting
- The DALI driver is updated to include support for DALI compatible emergency lighting, and brightness levels as a percentage.
- Heatmiser Neo
A HeatmiserNeo driver update (version 2.0) incorporates the latest Heatmiser API. It is compatible with 2nd generation neoHub gateways and the latest neoStats, including heat/cool features. Finding a neoHub using the connect key is now supported.
Note some object references have changed within the HeatmiserNeo driver following changes to the API.
- Other updates
This release also includes minor enhancements to the following drivers: Lutron QS Lighting, Panasonic air conditioning.
Updated driver manuals are available for Mitsubishi air conditioning and Xtralis Vesda smoke detection.

This release features:
- New Zip Module Types configuration, enables pre-engineering of a Zip System offline
- Essential Data alarm delay, reducing false alarms
- ObVerse Manual examples now available as macros, insert them into your ObVerse Processor project.
ObSys
- Essential Data
Essential Data (version 3.1) introduces an optional delay in reporting a value alarm state. Use it to reduce false alarm events. The delay can be set up to 12 hours.
This version also resolves an isolated issue where if an object is adjusted multiple times before the remote device acknowledges the first, the last adjustment may not be sent to the remote device.
- ObVerse
Examples from the ObVerse Manual: Standard Processor are now available as macros. Using ObvEditor, insert them into your ObVerse Processor project.
The ObVerse Manual: Advanced Processor document is released, consolidating ObVerse documentation for the extra features within ObView - the advanced processor.
ObvEditor application is also updated with links to these new documents.
- Web Server
- An update to WebView enables faster page loading from logs containing a large amount of data, and pages with Essential Data values.
- ObSave and ObLoad
- The ObLoad and ObSave applications have been updated with more command line options, useful for automating object backups.

Commander v2.0 (build 01/06/19) includes the following new and updated features:
Essential Data (v3.1) introduces an optional delay in reporting a value alarm state. Use it to reduce false alarm events. The delay can be set up to 12 hours.
This version also resolves an isolated issue where if an object is adjusted multiple times before the remote device acknowledges the first, the last adjustment may not be sent to the remote device.The North IP Devices module has a functional change when DEFAULTIP switch is set ON. When set to use the default IP address, the local encryption key is disabled.
Zip
- Pre-engineering a Zip System
With the new ZipMaster v1.2 driver, it is also now possible to engineer a Zip system before the physical network is available.
Using the Module Types Setup object, the engineer can specify the module type to expect at each address (without the physical module being connected). When the Zip System is scanned, the modules appear. Great for pre-engineering.
Saving the Zip Setup and Zip System objects will save the module types as well as the individual module settings for each address. The backup file(s) can be loaded into a Zip interface elsewhere, even if no modules are physically attached to the new Zip network.
- Module Lock
- Get better control of what happens when a new module is physically added, replaced with another of the same type, or changed for a module of a different type on the Zip network. Use the new Module Lock object to protect against unwanted changes.

Drivers
- Protec Fire
- The Protec driver (version 1.5) features enhancements from the latest Protec protocol release, support for general alarm and technical alarm panel events, and a pause between commands is now enforced by driver. The driver also adds options to filter particular panel events, and can optionally resend output group overrides when the system is reset.
- BACnet/IP
- A BACnetIP driver update resolves an issue when reading an object description containing a long text value.
- Daikin & Panasonic
- The Daikin and PanasonicVRF drivers are both updated to improve their re-connection time after a power fail of the connected system.
- MQTT & JSONNotify APIs
- The MQTT and JSONNotify drivers are both updated for compatibility with the latest Essential Data version included in this release.
- Other updates
- This release also includes minor enhancements to the following drivers: Advanced MxPro Fire, TextOut

ObSys
- Speed and Performance Optimization
We've optimized several applications to improve their speed and performance, particularly when engineering a North device.
Optimization of the North IP Devices module speeds communication to Commander. In ObSave, the time taken to save a complete Commander object to a backup file has been reduced by 80%. In addition, ObSave can now include ObVerse Processors as part of the backup. In ObView, experience faster page refreshes for some devices.
ObView, ObSave, ObLoad, ObSearch applications, and IPBus OSM are all updated.
- ObVerse Improvements
We've added the option to cancel a Get ObVerse or Put ObVerse action. ObvEditor application has a smoother page refresh in Watch mode, enforces property references to four characters, and resolves a few issues when repositioning an item. ObVerse Processor resolves issues with the following modules: Rescale (divide by zero), On-Off-Delay (restart), and Counter (reset when input 1).
ObvEditor application and ObvProcess OSM are both updated.
- Data Transfer
- The Data Transfer module has improved handling for values from a profile or times object type. Allowing you to transfer time profile values.

Commander v2.0 (build 24/12/18) includes the following new and updated features:
An ObVerse Processor update adds the option to cancel a Get ObVerse or Put ObVerse action; and resolves issues with the following modules: Rescale (divide by zero), On-Off-Delay (restart), and Counter (reset when input 1).
The Data Transfer module has improved handling for values from a profile or times object type. Allowing you to transfer time profile values.
- Web Server
- An update to the Web Server module resolves an issue when viewing web pages via a slow Internet connection. The Essential Values page navigation list may have been incomplete.

- State Check
- The new State Check driver monitors digital states and counts the times these states change. It also records the length of time the states were active. Limits can be used to indicate out-of-bound counts and times for each period.
- North IP Devices
- The IPBus driver speed and performance optimization reduces the time taken to back-up a North Commander.
- BACnet/IP
- The BACnetIP driver has improved scanning on large BACnet inter-networks using multiple routers. Support for device address 0 is added, and the driver can now respond to requests from different UDP ports.
- Modbus
- Support for Modbus function 15 (multiple coil write) has been added to the Modbus driver (client operation), and ModbusTCP driver (client and server operation).
- Lutron HomeWorks QS Lighting Control
- The LutronQS driver adds an object for a single heating/cooling setpoint in the Lutron HVAC module.
- Advanced MxPro Fire Control Panels
- The Advanced4000 driver reworks the North alarm condition field to give a better indication of cleared and reset events.

- This new application assists with documenting your engineering of North products. In ObView, when viewing the configuration of Essential Data, Zip System, Data Transfer and others, simply select the Extras menu then Export to CSV.

- ObVerse Editor updated to resolve an issue with Essential Data properties on a sheet.
- North Product Documentation
- We are continually improving our documentation. In additon to the driver updates below, this release includes updates to Commander Manual, Cisco TelePresence, EnOcean, Mitsubishi, and SeaChange.

- Commander Firmware
- No changes to Commander base firmware in this release. Some multi-driver CDMs have been renamed to include all driver names.
Drivers
- BACnet/IP
- This new version 3.1 of the BACnetIP driver adds support for revision 19 of the BACnet standard. We have also expanded the capabilities of the BACnet client, enabling you to access many more object types within other BACnet devices, including schedules and calendars.
- Philips Hue Lighting
- A new Hue driver interfaces with a Philips Hue wireless lighting system.
- Device Check
- The new Device Check driver monitors the health of remote devices and web servers. When the driver detects a problem reaching a device, it can notify you by sending a North-format alarm message, and trigger an automated action by setting an object value within a device.
- M-Bus meters
- An updated version 1.2 of the MBus driver offers improved support for battery-powered meters, fixed baud rate option, and advanced options.
- Kentec Syncro Fire
- An updated version 1.4 of the Kentec driver offers enhanced filters to ignore certain event types.
- DALI Lighting
- We have added additional commands to the DALI driver making the addressing of a DALI network easier.
- Other updates

When an object in Essential Data is configured with a remote action of 'read' and the current value does not change for 24 days, then Essential Data will stop reading the object for the next 24 days, after which it will start reading again.
