Commander

Commander Firmware

Commander v2.0 (build 01/11/23) includes the following changes:

The new DHCP Server (in DEFAULTIP mode) provides an IP address to your connected PCs, getting you engineering quicker.

General improvements to detect a power-loss (from a failing power supply) while Commander is powering-up.

An ObVerse Processor update adds a new Last-Change module, and Text-Equal, Text-In-Text, Text-Join, Text-Length, and Text-Split modules are now supported. Previously these Text modules types were only supported in advanced processors.

Local Web server – exported CSV file format updated to resolve some utf-8 encoding issues.

North IP Devices – performance optimisations.

ObSys

Observer

WebView has an improved LDAP (Active Directory) sign-in, and modified text to sign-in alarm events. An issue with RemoteWrite was resolved that could cause a browser to incorrectly display a missing image placeholder.

AlarmStore is updated to resolve an issue with CSV file formatting.

North IP Devices includes performance optimisations.

ObVerse Processor and ObVerse Editor

A new Last-Change module has been added, and Text-Equal, Text-In-Text, Text-Join, Text-Length, and Text-Split module types are now supported. Previously these Text modules were only supported in advanced processors.

ObVerse Editor is updated to include support for these module types.

Data Manager

Improvements to CSV data file handling includes a new auto-delete option, custom folder location, and the re-creation of files if deleted by another application.

The retry time when a channel’s source object is failing has been changed, similar to Essential Data, to increase with the number of failed attempts.

Object reference changes include a new Information object with total data channels, alert counts, and cycle time. The Setup object now contains set up options grouped by category.

Various general improvements were made and issues fixed.

Alarm Manager

Updated links to documentation and resolved an issue with buttons on the info pane not initialising correctly.

Object Exporter

Navigating to folder shortcuts has been added when browsing for a destination folder location.

Documentation

ObSys Tutorial (Part 2) is now available and covers Alarm Manager, Data Manager, and ObView.

Zip Driver

The ZipMaster driver (v1.2 build 18/11/22) for Commander and ObSys is updated to improve start-up, including faster detection of connected modules.

The Advanced driver (v1.5 build 01/11/23) has been renamed from Advanced4000. Changes include new objects for event counts of each condition.

Modbus

This Modbus driver (v3.0 build 01/03/23) includes a fix an issue when decoding 4-register (8-byte) values.

This release focuses on performance optimisations.

General improvements to power-loss detection and shut-down procedure.

Sending to Hub has a few minor changes – Data encryption block size has been optimised to increase idle times, and improved delivery after a loss of Internet connection.

Local Web server – fixed formatting issue of profile and times values when refreshing on values detail page.

Commander v2.0 (build 17/08/22) includes the following changes:

Local web server – page data now automatically refreshes, remembers value expand/collapse all, fixed displaying month, enhanced security policy.

We've increased the number of factory-installed drivers. These drivers are also available via cloud update feature.

Alarm Emailer – improved sending over poor signal connections.

Fixed issues with clearing Alarm History may stop Hub reporting, and TCP socket link closure.

M7007 mixed input-output module

A new M7007A module is released. It has two digital inputs, four universal inputs, two relay outputs, and three analogue outputs.This replaces the M7012 for new projects. See Zip Manual for details.

M7204 Smart Switch facia change

The M7204A Smart Switch display has been redesigned and features a solid brushed aluminium facia and buttons. For a custom install, replacement unfinished solid brass metal facia and button kits are availble to finish in your chosen design.

Zip Driver

The ZipMaster driver (v1.2 build 01/09/22) for Commander and ObSys is updated to support the new M7007 module.

Redesigned local web server – simple responsive html pages which the user can view in any modern browser.

Essential Data – for float-type objects, added 0.5 decimal place option.

Following previous changes to the PROGRAM and DEFAULTIP switches. This version adds a TFTP permitted object to control TFTP updates in PROGRAM mode.

Other changes to Commander include a larger ARP cache, and improved battery monitoring.

ObVerse Processor and ObVerse Editor

New property types for Profile, Times, and DateTime have been added; along with the module types Times-State, Profile-Values, Date-Pulse, and Smooth. See ObVerse Manual: Standard Processor for details.

ObVerse Editor is updated to include support for these new properties and modules.

An update to Object Exporter resolves an issue when exporting complex objects.

All new with this release! Commander Hub is the cloud-based meeting place for Commanders, their owners, their installers, and their service providers.

Commander Hub extends the power of Commander by providing easy remote viewing and editing, long-term recording of building data, and management of shared access.

Commander Firmware

Commander v2.0 (build 01/10/21) includes the following new and updated features:

New feature to enable link to Commander Hub. Once enabled, Commander continually monitors and records changes to values collected by Essential Data, alarm events received by Alarm History, and device information. Then it encrypts and transfers these changes to Commander Hub.

New feature to update Commander's firmware directly from North's cloud servers.

This version changes the operation of the PROGRAM switch, moving some features to the DEFAULTIP switch. Refer to Commander Manual for details.

The local web server has an updated support page, with option enable the Commander Hub link.

Fixed an issue with Essential Data not clearing a comms alarm state, when the value is unchanged.

North IP Devices resolves an issue with its comms check, caused by the reference containing an alias.

Other updates include - improved ARP cache operation, default DNS server (1.1.1.1) and NTP server (pool.ntp.org) when unspecified, support for latest Commander hardware revision, along with updated documentation.

Note: any existing configuration may be deleted on upgrading to this version. We recommend first saving a backup of Commander's configuration. Contact support for assistance.

A new twelve digital input M7005 module is now available. This replaces the M7001 for new projects. See Zip Manual for details.

Zip Driver

The ZipMaster driver (v1.2 build 17/06/21) for Commander and ObSys is updated as follows:

Support for new M7005 module.

Thermistor value conversion range extended to -50...150°C.

Offline configuration of an M7004 module: fixed an issue that caused universal outputs (UOx) to wipe when connected.

M7202 display: resolved issue of bi-directional values writing on a restart, even though adjust set to 'no'.

Heatmiser Neo

An updated HeatmiserNeo driver increases the resolution of temperature setpoints, and detects any changes to a zone's device type more frequently.

Version 1.1 of LutronQS driver adds support for HVAC and output monitoring, reduces scanning limit on Integration-ids to 500, improves handling of error responses.

Advanced Electronics fire detection

Fixed issue with Load Labels not loading all detector labels, modified panel action object values when reading to improve operation with Essential Data.

BACnet/IP

Updated priority array for multi-state objects, added additional protection against malformed network messages, device mac address cache increased. Also improved ObView pages for a device to reduce object requests and increase description length.

Views are auto-scanned when no items have been discovered previously;

Items that have changed since the view was last scanned are highlighted, prompting a rescan;

Quicker page load and refresh times for table views, such as Data Transfer and Essential Data;

ObView's toolbar has been refreshed;

Marked object is reset to the local ObServer when ObSys is started.

ObVerse Editor

An update to the ObVerse Editor application resolves an isolated issue when inserting or pasting ObVerse. When a pasted item's reference was already in the ObVerse processor, the reference was four characters long, and ended in a 'z'; then the item's reference became corrupted.

Essential Data

Essential Data is updated to reduce the retry period from 15min to 5min, when remote fails reach 9.

The latest Modbus driver (version 3.0) incorporates features from our existing range of Modbus drivers (Modbus v2, ModbusTCP, and ModbusSlave) replacing them with a single unified driver.

DALI Lighting

The DALI driver is updated to include support for DALI compatible emergency lighting, and brightness levels as a percentage.

Heatmiser Neo

A HeatmiserNeo driver update (version 2.0) incorporates the latest Heatmiser API. It is compatible with 2nd generation neoHub gateways and the latest neoStats, including heat/cool features. Finding a neoHub using the connect key is now supported.

Note some object references have changed within the HeatmiserNeo driver following changes to the API.

Other updates

This release also includes minor enhancements to the following drivers: Lutron QS Lighting, Panasonic air conditioning.

Updated driver manuals are available for Mitsubishi air conditioning and Xtralis Vesda smoke detection.

This release features:

• New Zip Module Types configuration, enables pre-engineering of a Zip System offline

Essential Data

Essential Data (version 3.1) introduces an optional delay in reporting a value alarm state. Use it to reduce false alarm events. The delay can be set up to 12 hours.

This version also resolves an isolated issue where if an object is adjusted multiple times before the remote device acknowledges the first, the last adjustment may not be sent to the remote device.

ObVerse

Examples from the ObVerse Manual: Standard Processor are now available as macros. Using ObvEditor, insert them into your ObVerse Processor project.

The ObVerse Manual: Advanced Processor document is released, consolidating ObVerse documentation for the extra features within ObView - the advanced processor.

ObvEditor application is also updated with links to these new documents.

Web Server

An update to WebView enables faster page loading from logs containing a large amount of data, and pages with Essential Data values.

ObSave and ObLoad

The ObLoad and ObSave applications have been updated with more command line options, useful for automating object backups.

Commander Firmware

Commander v2.0 (build 01/06/19) includes the following new and updated features:

Essential Data (v3.1) introduces an optional delay in reporting a value alarm state. Use it to reduce false alarm events. The delay can be set up to 12 hours.
This version also resolves an isolated issue where if an object is adjusted multiple times before the remote device acknowledges the first, the last adjustment may not be sent to the remote device.

The North IP Devices module has a functional change when DEFAULTIP switch is set ON. When set to use the default IP address, the local encryption key is disabled.

Zip

Pre-engineering a Zip System

With the new ZipMaster v1.2 driver, it is also now possible to engineer a Zip system before the physical network is available.

Using the Module Types Setup object, the engineer can specify the module type to expect at each address (without the physical module being connected). When the Zip System is scanned, the modules appear. Great for pre-engineering.

Saving the Zip Setup and Zip System objects will save the module types as well as the individual module settings for each address. The backup file(s) can be loaded into a Zip interface elsewhere, even if no modules are physically attached to the new Zip network.

Module Lock

Get better control of what happens when a new module is physically added, replaced with another of the same type, or changed for a module of a different type on the Zip network. Use the new Module Lock object to protect against unwanted changes.

Protec Fire

The Protec driver (version 1.5) features enhancements from the latest Protec protocol release, support for general alarm and technical alarm panel events, and a pause between commands is now enforced by driver. The driver also adds options to filter particular panel events, and can optionally resend output group overrides when the system is reset.

BACnet/IP

A BACnetIP driver update resolves an issue when reading an object description containing a long text value.

Daikin & Panasonic

The Daikin and PanasonicVRF drivers are both updated to improve their re-connection time after a power fail of the connected system.

MQTT & JSONNotify APIs

The MQTT and JSONNotify drivers are both updated for compatibility with the latest Essential Data version included in this release.

Speed and Performance Optimization

We've optimized several applications to improve their speed and performance, particularly when engineering a North device.

Optimization of the North IP Devices module speeds communication to Commander. In ObSave, the time taken to save a complete Commander object to a backup file has been reduced by 80%. In addition, ObSave can now include ObVerse Processors as part of the backup. In ObView, experience faster page refreshes for some devices.

ObView, ObSave, ObLoad, ObSearch applications, and IPBus OSM are all updated.

ObVerse Improvements

We've added the option to cancel a Get ObVerse or Put ObVerse action. ObvEditor application has a smoother page refresh in Watch mode, enforces property references to four characters, and resolves a few issues when repositioning an item. ObVerse Processor resolves issues with the following modules: Rescale (divide by zero), On-Off-Delay (restart), and Counter (reset when input 1).

ObvEditor application and ObvProcess OSM are both updated.

Data Transfer

The Data Transfer module has improved handling for values from a profile or times object type. Allowing you to transfer time profile values.

Web Server

An update to the Web Server module resolves an issue when viewing web pages via a slow Internet connection. The Essential Values page navigation list may have been incomplete.

Drivers

State Check

The new State Check driver monitors digital states and counts the times these states change. It also records the length of time the states were active. Limits can be used to indicate out-of-bound counts and times for each period.

North IP Devices

The IPBus driver speed and performance optimization reduces the time taken to back-up a North Commander.

BACnet/IP

The BACnetIP driver has improved scanning on large BACnet inter-networks using multiple routers. Support for device address 0 is added, and the driver can now respond to requests from different UDP ports.

Modbus

Support for Modbus function 15 (multiple coil write) has been added to the Modbus driver (client operation), and ModbusTCP driver (client and server operation).

Lutron HomeWorks QS Lighting Control

The LutronQS driver adds an object for a single heating/cooling setpoint in the Lutron HVAC module.

Advanced MxPro Fire Control Panels

The Advanced4000 driver reworks the North alarm condition field to give a better indication of cleared and reset events.

We are continually improving our documentation. In additon to the driver updates below, this release includes updates to Commander Manual, Cisco TelePresence, EnOcean, Mitsubishi, and SeaChange.

Commander Firmware

No changes to Commander base firmware in this release. Some multi-driver CDMs have been renamed to include all driver names.

Drivers

BACnet/IP

This new version 3.1 of the BACnetIP driver adds support for revision 19 of the BACnet standard. We have also expanded the capabilities of the BACnet client, enabling you to access many more object types within other BACnet devices, including schedules and calendars.

Philips Hue Lighting

A new Hue driver interfaces with a Philips Hue wireless lighting system.

Device Check

The new Device Check driver monitors the health of remote devices and web servers. When the driver detects a problem reaching a device, it can notify you by sending a North-format alarm message, and trigger an automated action by setting an object value within a device.

M-Bus meters

An updated version 1.2 of the MBus driver offers improved support for battery-powered meters, fixed baud rate option, and advanced options.

Kentec Syncro Fire

An updated version 1.4 of the Kentec driver offers enhanced filters to ignore certain event types.

DALI Lighting

We have added additional commands to the DALI driver making the addressing of a DALI network easier.

Commander v2.0 (build 01/03/18) resolves the following issue:
When an object in Essential Data is configured with a remote action of 'read' and the current value does not change for 24 days, then Essential Data will stop reading the object for the next 24 days, after which it will start reading again. If Commander is restarted during this time, then reading will resume and the timer restarted.

We recommend Commander with firmware build 01/11/17 or later is updated to this release

The latest ObServer includes an update to Essential Data (v3.0 build 01/03/18) to resolve the issue above.

ObSys Applications

ObVerse Editor updated to resolve an issue when selecting an object reference.

Commander v2.0 (build 07/12/17) resolves the following issue:
Essential Data's Task Control object is used to enable the operation of Essential Data. On reading this object it reports an incorrect value, and adjusting may cause operation to be disabled.

This issue was introduced with firmware build 01/11/17. We recommend updating to the latest release.

The latest ObServer includes an update to Essential Data (v3.0 build 06/12/17) to resolve the issue above.

The latest firmware for Commander v2.0 (build 01/11/17) includes optimizations for Alarm Email, Essential Data, ObVerse Processor, and Web Server.

A Telnet update increases the number of sessions available, and resolves an issue when Commander is attempting to transmit on to a congested IP network. We recommend installing this update.

ObServer

The latest ObServer includes optimizations for Alarm Store, Alarm Email, Essential Data, ObVerse Processor, and Telnet.

ObSys Applications

We've added support for the current marked object in ObVerse Editor.

Load from a Backup now additionally supports a semicolon (;) as an end-of-line separator. Useful when creating back-up files (.obs) in a spreadsheet.

North Product Documentation

We are continually improving our documentation. This release includes an update to Zip Manual, and new Application Notes for Crestron, Savant, and Hitachi CS-Net.

Cisco TelePresence

The new Cisco TelePresence driver provides value access to the Cisco TelePresence Touch 10 in-room control panel. Allowing HVAC, lighting, blind and shade control from the video conference touchscreen.

EnOcean Self-Powered Wireless Sensors

Our EnOcean driver has been redesigned for the latest EnOcean standard. This new version supports EnOcean serial protocol 3 (ESP3) available within gateways using the TCM 310 chipset, and more EnOcean Equipment Profiles (EEPs).

Sending Commands with Text Out

Send simple ASCII commands to third-party equipment, such as a CCTV matrix, using the TextOut driver. The updated driver can now connect with up to four TCP/IP devices and a serial device.

Lutron HomeWorks QS Lighting

We have updated the LutronQS driver to improve interoperability with shade and blind devices.

KNX Standard

An improved KnxIP driver includes destination objects, for improved interoperability with keypads, and supports Gira routers.

Advanced MxPro Fire Systems

The new version of Advanced4000 driver adds filtering to events.

Heatmiser Neo

The HeatmiserNeo driver has been updated to improve reliability with larger Heatmiser systems.

We are continually improving our documentation. In addition to Commander and Zip updates, driver documentation has been updated for Philips LightMaster, Vaisala weather, Heatmiser, SG, SNMPTrap, and CSVStore. The ObVerse Manual - Standard Processor is also updated.

The new DALI driver interfaces to lighting devices supporting the DALI standard.

Heatmiser Neo

The new HeatmiserNeo driver connects to the Heatmiser Neo heating and hot water control system.

Panasonic Network Disk Recorder

The new PanasonicNDR driver triggers alarm inputs on a Panasonic network disk recorder.

MQTT

The new MQTT driver provides a method to publish values from a North device to an MQTT message broker. The broker stores these values and delivers them to any M2M application that subscribes to them. MQTT message brokers are available as part of many IoT platforms, both cloud hosted and on-premises.

MBus Metering

Version 1.1 of the MBus driver is available. This adds support for 64-bit values, more value types, and some manufacturer specific values.

Zip

The updated ZipMaster driver adds support for the new Zip Smart Switch display.
BitIn and BitOut object types have an improved invert object.
Zip Overview and Zip Manual are updated, and a new Zip Tutorial is now available.

TextOut

Version 2.1 of the TextOut driver is available. Used to trigger simple text commands within connected third-party equipment, the driver now support TCP/IP connections in addition to serial.

Daikin

Version 1.1 of the Daikin driver now supports connections to a Daikin iTouch Manager.

ExtraData

Version 1.1 of the ExtraData driver provides several bug fixes, and now includes a formula increment option.

• More drivers pre-loaded - Commander will now be supplied with 50% more drivers installed and ready to start. These including interfaces to Advanced, Daikin, KNX, Legrand, Lutron, MBus, Philips, and APIs for North devices.
  We're also unlocking the expanded storage available in Commanders by introducing CDM Bank 17 onwards. Compatible with hardware version 2.0, which has been shipped since 01/03/2015 (starting with serial number 80001309).
• ObVerse Processor – new Raise-Lower and Usage modules
• Essential Data - number of objects per page now configurable. Total database values expanded to 640. Load the ExtraData driver (on version 2.0 hardware) to increase this to 1664 values.
• Support for FastComms – our drivers can now talk to each other faster in the same North device. Great when accessing Essential Data values.
• Web Server – improved reliability over slow Internet connections.
• Data Transfer – resolved an issue when the destination write rate was set to 1 min. This prevented the transfer from reading the source object.

Data Manager

This application includes improvements when displaying intensly logged data channels. When Data Manager is unable to display all data, this is now indicated in the information area rather than using a popup.

Daikin Air Conditioning

The new Daikin driver interfaces to a Daikin iTouch controller. Compatible with the Daikin VRV, HRV and SkyAir air-conditioning ranges.

Extending Essential Data

The new ExtraData driver extends the Essential Data capabilities of a North device, and therefore extends the capabilities of drivers that use Essential Data. These include the BACnetIP, DataSync, JSONData, JSONNotify, ModbusTCP, and ModbusSlave drivers.

Protec Fire

The updated Protec driver now supports the latest Algo-tec 6500, 6600 and 6700 series fire control panels.

Modbus

The ModbusTCP and Modbus drivers can now access 64-bit register values. The Modbus driver has also been updated with a configurable request timeout, improving fault recovery on faster devices.

Simple Text Commands

The updated TextOut driver, which allows a North device to send simple text commands to connected third-party equipment, is now faster with more output options.

Kentec Fire

The Kentec driver has been improved to better detect the fire panel powering-up.

The new XMLRead and CSVRead drivers allows North to read data from XML feeds and delimiter-separated text files. Access to this data is made available as objects.

Exporting CSV data

The new CSVWrite driver exports data from Essential Data to delimiter-separated text files.

Morley Fire

The updated Morley driver has been redesigned and improved to provide better access to information from the system.

Mitsubishi

The updated MitsubishiG50 driver is now compatible with the latest Mitsubishi AE-200 controllers.

Commander Firmware

IMPORTANT: Due to changes in the latest Commander firmware, and in preparation for future hardware changes, all of Commander’s settings will be erased when updating the firmware to this version.Before updating, you should take a backup of the configuration, ensuring that all ObVerse Processors are saved. We also recommend you only update Commander when connected locally, as IP settings will also be erased.

The latest firmware for Commander v2.0 (build 20/08/14) includes time server enhancements, improved handling of an IP socket failure, and improved memory handling to resolve issue with module occasionally erasing on update.

Panasonic VRF Air Conditioning

This driver, renamed to PanasonicVRF, is now compatible with the Panasonic ECOi and ECO G in addition to the Sanyo AMY air conditioning system.

Kidde Fire Protection

The new KiddeVegaPanel driver interfaces with a single Vega fire panel, replacing the obsolete 527 network card.

Modbus Slave

this new ModbusSlave driver replaces the ModbusDev driver, and presents values from the North device’s Essential Data as Modbus registers.

JSON web-based APIs

the new JSONData and JSONNotify drivers provide APIs that enable your application to collect and adjust information from the North Device’s Essential Data. JSONData provides a web service that your application can request data from. JSONNotify provides a web service that will push data to your application using Webhooks or as a WebDAV file.

DataSync API

This new driver provides a simple text-based API, allowing your application to synchronise with and adjust information from the North Device’s Essential Data. Ideal for home automation controllers.

Protec Fire Detection

this new version of the Protec v1.3 driver includes event support from latest protocol, and improved damper event support.

Ziton ZP2 Fire

this new version of ZitonZP v1.2 includes more event storage, support for our latest fire object model, and a minor change to the alarm format. New-style documentation is also available.

Geist PDU

this new version of the GeistPDU v1.2 is now compatible with a larger range of PDUs.

Alarm Set

receives North-format alarms, and signals the event by setting an object value within another device. The new version of AlmSet v1.1 driver includes more signals, and an option to ignore case. New-style documentation in also available.

North Zip I/O

added support for new M7006 modules, and resolved an issue with echo corruption on noisy networks.

GSM SMS Gateway

updated SMS interface, and new-style documentation.

The new version of the Advanced4000 v1.2 driver adds support for damper devices, caches detector labels, and improves network scanning. This version also resolves an issue with repeated normal alarms when ignore isolations is enabled, and a CRC calculation problem. New style documentation is also available.

Kentec Syncro Fire Detection

The new version of the Kentec v1.3 driver includes improved network scanning, increased number of sub-addresses supported, and on-board I/O support on loop 0. New style documentation is also available.

Meaco Radio Telemetry

The new version of the Meaco v1.2 driver has been updated for compatibility with latest Meaco sensor range. New style documentation is also available.

Modbus over Serial Line

The new version of the Modbus v1.1 driver includes improved device scanning, a default baud rate and other parameters are set on initialisation, and some configuration objects have moved to an advanced section – including a new exception device-type list. A problem when writing to a bit value has also been resolved. Enhanced ObView pages are now available for default Modbus devices, enabling faster engineering. New style documentation is also available.

Modbus over TCP/IP

The ModbusTCP v2.0 driver includes improved compatibility when connecting to certain devices, and resolves a problem when writing to a bit value.Enhanced ObView pages are now available for default Modbus devices, enabling faster engineering. New style documentation is also available.

Philips LightMaster Lighting System

This new version of the PhilipsLM v1.1 driver includes enhacements to add a DALI error count, and an option to disable communications with an area controller whilst engineering.

North Zip I/O

ZipMaster v1.1 includes support for the new profile object type, and improves reliability when a corrupt device type message is received. When a display is connected to the network, this update improves editing of a time value, and resolves a conflict with modules at address 0. New style documentation is also available.

BACnet/IP

BACnetIP v2.1 resolves an issue with messages received from a BBMB, improving response to BACnet I AM messages. New style documentation is also available.

SMS

The new version of GSMSMS v1.2 now supports more users.

Echelon LonWorks

LonSLTA v1.2 now sets a default baud rate for the SLTA on initialisation. Support for latest SNVT types has been added and new style documentation is also available.
